About
I'm Seb Smith, a software developer based in the UK.
I work on product software where the details matter: user flows, data, reliability, maintainability and whether the thing actually does the job for the people using it.
Over the years I've worked on software across healthcare, finance, construction, transport and other sectors. The common thread is practical engineering: understanding the problem, keeping the scope honest, and making software that can survive contact with real users.
I'm also interested in how AI-assisted development changes the way people build software. It can be genuinely useful, but I care a lot about the judgement around it: what to trust, what to review, and what needs proper engineering before launch.
Away from the keyboard I'm usually into sim racing, motorsport, hiking, or thinking too much about a side project I may or may not actually finish.
Where the work has taken me
The domain changes, but the shape of the work is often similar: understand the users, make the software clearer, and avoid adding complexity without a good reason.
